Don't tell my wife, but I enjoy mowing the lawn. We have a rider mower, but there's always issues with it so usually I use our push mower. I find it very peaceful. The noise blocks out all distractions and people are hesitant to approach and annoy you. I'm free to think or not think as the situation dictates. And you get visible results so there's a definite sense of accomplishment when you're done.
When I mow, I use the parcel system with a lap pattern. That is, I mow a section of the lawn at a time and do laps of the area rather than rows. Once again, there's a sense of accomplishment tied to this approach as your laps get smaller and smaller.
Essentially, mowing the lawn is 2 hours of me time. It clears my mind better than most anything I can think of. But don't tell my wife. She thinks I'm doing work.

HA! When we bought our house The Spouse was all excited about having a lawn to mow. He got over it pretty quickly...he apparently hasn't discovered the zen of lawn mowing.
